After a very successful Australian premiere in Sydney, Blue Saint Productions brought Violet down to Chapel Off Chapel for a Melbourne run. This musical tells the story of Violet, disfigured from a childhood accident, as she undertakes a roadtrip seeking a televangelist who she believes will heal her. Along the way, she meets two soldiers and together, she learns what beauty truly is.
I loved the set for this production - minimalistic, but interesting and elegant. The one downside, as a photographer, was that with the curves, the ramp, the skewed angle of the set to the audience, and the forced perspectives, it was a nightmare ensuring the photos weren't 'crooked'!
Nominated for 8 Sydney Theatre Awards (winning Best Independent production of a Musical, Best Direction, Best Music Direction), the excellence continued in Melbourne receiving rave reviews.
